make sure that your md5 file is located in the same directory as your downloaded file (*.dsl, *.iso, *.ci, etc).

Then open an Xterminal and type in the following:

cd name-of-your-directory    (this is not necessary if you saved everything to your default home directory)

md5sum -c name-of-file.md5.txt


If you get an "OK" message then your file is good.
