I'm booting DSL from my usb drive, but I'm having problems getting xmms to play music (the music is located on my ntfs hda5 and the errors I'm getting are the "Please check that: 1..." which I assume are standard ).  I've got an audigy 2 zs plat which I'm assuming will require alsa.  The real problem arises in that I'm pretty much a linux newb.  I did a gentoo installation and can navigate around a bit, but I'm somewhat lost beyond that.  I guess what I'm looking for is a some idea of where to begin with alsa, and if someone could recommend a general linux reference that would be sweet.  Also, assuming I can get sound going on this computer, what are the chances that other computers will need work done to get sound going on them as well?

Many thanks,
AF

If you want ALSA, then download and use the alsadebs.dsl extension from the MyDSL repository.

Make sure to read and follow the instuctions in the *.info file for this extension.
