I can't find my USB stick in /dev. Is it under some unusual name, or does DSL just not recognise either of my sticks on two quite modern systems? I'm running it embedded, maybe that has some effect.

Moved to embedded section. Qemu is a virtual machine as such it does not have native access to real drives. Read about Qemu in the readme and/or visit the Qemu Windows Support Site.
