I've tried to edit .xserverrc through beaver and have been unsuccessful.  yes, i am using emelfm.
But i need to know what needs to be edited in 'exec /usr/bin/X11...'
I know I have to copy, rename, and edit XF86Config-4_vesa afterwards.
But I can't seem to edit the .xserverrc the correct way.
Can anyone recommend what I should edit in this line. I'm sure it's simple, but I can't grasp it for some reason.

/home/dsl/.xserverrc needs to look like this:

exec /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 -nolisten tcp

Juanito

I could've sworn that's what I had edited it to in the beginning.
When I run xsetup.sh, does that overwrite my .xserverrc?
I think that's where I lost it.
ok, when i get back to editing for the resolution, should I just edit the resolution to 1440x900 only, or should I add 1440x900 to the rest of the resolutions?

Up to you.  If you plan on using that res only then you can just do that.
