I have a VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller in my main laptop, DSL recognises it, and it even works, kind of.  Any sound which is played is kind of tinny, it's almost like it's using a low sample rate, I also get and odd clipping type effect in the left channel.  I've used other small Linux distro's on this laptop, puppy and feather, and the same thing happens, must be some Knoppix problem (as they're all based on it).  I've also used some bigger main stream distro's (Mandrake and SuSE) on here and they worked fine, so does windoze...  Any ideas???

Cheers!

Give the alsadebs extension a try.

Many people think ALSA is a much nicer sounding audio driver system.

Be sure to read the instructions carefully before installing.
