DSL 0.6
HD installation

Okay, I give up... How do I adjust the sound volume from within DSL/Slit?  Clicking the <-> arrows in the audio section of Slit  yields bar graphs of audio levels, but I can't figure out what keys change those levels...

And while we are on the subject of Slit - I can mount  a CD of mp3's, but a commercial audio CD will not mount.  Any ideas?

Thnx,

I.

The wmix volume control app was not added to DSL until version 0.6.1, so I know of no way to change the volume besides the volume slider in the XMMS program.

You could try typing this (inside an xterminal):

sudo su
dpkg-restore
apt-get install wmix
wmix &
exit

to give yourself the volume app.  Or you could download and install the latest version of DSL.

As for the audio CD, you do not need to "mount" it in order to play an audio CD. Just choose the Appropriate XMMS menu item inside Fluxbox and you can play an audio CD.

Good Luck.

If you can see the bar graphs of audio levels appear, I'm guessing
that you already have wmix and sound enabled...
Click and drag either up or down over the circle with the red
dot on it.  That is your volume knob. You should see the bar
graphs change..  I usually set the "Master Volume" and the
PCM(wave) volume to around 75%.

Okay, it is actually DSL 0.63.

Sound works just fine, at least for mp3's, and I figured out how to use the volume "knob" feature (cool).

But... commercial CD's (WAV format?) are not recognized by XMMS.

I have only 128 MB RAM on this box, and this is "shared" with the video display system I believe.  This is a HD install, and I know of no way to run the TORAM startup option.

Thanks very much for your suggestions.  If you have any more ideas, please let me know.

I.
