I can't get mplayer to start on dsl, not from the desktop via double click, not from the shell. It just doesn't start up. I have a rather old system (P1 MMX 233), 64 MB RAM). Any suggestions?
If not, any other video players I should try IYHO? I am quite new to the world of linux, forgive me my ignorance

You can see if the "xine" player works...
MPlayer wouldn't work on my 233 , but it's not MMX enabled
Mplayer wants MMX or SSE extensions...

Only thing is that xine is slower on my box, and has to be run in a smaller window.
