Hi all,

I have tried a number of time to install DSL to my HDD. I have partitioner the drive with 64Mb (actually that may be 32Mb but it doesn't really matter) Swap on hda2. hda1 is the balance of the drive (about 1Gb). hda1 is ext2 (might be ext3?) and the swap is defintely a swap partition.

when i run the dsl-hdinstall script, is firstly come us with an error along the lines of "hda1 not a special block device" - i thnk as this is on my home computer and i am at work (i will get the exact error code as soon as I can) and then asks me if i want to continue to which i answer "y" and then it tells me there is not sufficient space on the partition?!?!?

suggestions?

It might be trying to install on your swap, fdisk the swap out and put the gained space on one partition, this might fix it. Resize the main partition later and add a swap if you like. I have gotten my old laptop to work just fine without a swap and at only 16MB thats pretty good.

Thanks for the help. I have got past the problem ..... stoopid me, the problem was simply that instead of entering /dev/hda1 (or whatever the partition is) I was entering simply "hda1"

cheers again

I've been trying to install DSL for a while, but everytime i try to install, i get an error. I tried doing it w/ a /dev/hda1 /dev/swap set up, then a /dev/hda1 only which is where i'm at now.

/hda1 is not a black device
An error occured while creating filesystem
mke2fs 1.2
/hda1: Not enough space to build proposed filesystem while setting up superblock

Hey MarkJava,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Are you entering "/dev/hda1" or just "/hda1" when it asks you for a destination? Make sure you are adding the "/dev" component to the "/hda1" bit. This is what my issues were previously. I ended up getting it going great on a p133/32mb/1.1gb system. i made a 64m swap partition and it is fine.

goodluck
