Hello:

I managed to install DSL in an Old IBM thinkpad 760L with no networkcard or cdrom, i used paralell link cable to copy the cd from other PC, now i have install DSL to HD but i wish to use LOADLIN to load DSL just after DOS get to boot that is because i wish to get my sound card drivers loaded before since its card is an Mwave; the problem is  when X is about to get started i just got a black screen, i went to the console (CTRL-ALT F1) this error was there:

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 request (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

the strange thing is that whenever i use the floppy disk to boot the cd copy inside the HD it starts correctly and the desktop displays just fine.

the way that i use LOADLIN is the following:
loadlin linux24 root=/dev/hda5 ro vga=785

i have search for the x config file but i wasn't able to find it, i have run xsetup.sh script i tried to change vesa to framebuffer but i got the same result.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

xsetup.sh modifies ~/.xserverrc
If you require a full x server, you can use one of the XFree86.* extensions.

As I haven't used loadlin with dsl, I can't help you there, but your vga bootcode might be conflicting with your use of xfb perhaps? (maybe use the fb cheatcodes as well)

I am having a similar problem with dsl 3.2, X works fine after using the dsl xsetup cheat code at boot up, fluxbox starts up fine. everything works great. But after I install it to the hard drive, as soon as it starts x I get a  x reset error. I have never had any problems in previous versions of dsl. I have a neomagic chip in an omnibook 3000ctx.

If I remember correctly, this is a conflict between the Xvesa X-server and dos drivers, TSR's etc. You need a clean dos boot and I think you do this by pressing F5 or F8 during dos booting.
