I have a TP600e and posted in the related thread but maybe try this:

research the actual sound chip on your laptop at ibm's site or whatever and compare to lspci command output.

on my TP it was wrong so I added the alsa bootparam to the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst that I use to boot DSL-N

this setup audio with no driver on reboot (better than incorrect I guess) so I looked in the :

/lib/modules/2.6.12/kernel/sound

directory. Theres lots of directories for isa and pci sound cards.. look around and find yours. i.e. mine (cs4232 chip) was :

/lib/modules/2.6.12/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4232.ko

so I ran modprobe cs4232 which installs the right driver module and sound worked. it doesn't come up after reboot so I have to script that or something and my method may just be luck but it worked.

good luck fellow stoneage thinkpad user...
