I've been having problems with my internet browsing being slow as a 28.8 modem even though I'm using a fast DSL connection. It seems to have been something to do with Debian, because it was that way with Debian-based distros (my favorite distros, IOW) but not with others, such as PCLinuxOS. It apparently has soemthing to do with my ISP because it was so slow with two different computers that have different ethernet cards. I couldn't figure out how to fix it (and knew my ISP would be of no help since I'm a *nix-user -- "we support only Windows and OS X").

Anyway, I downloaded the latest version of DSL-N yesteray to give it a spin and browsing is just as fast it should be. Hooray! So what I'm asking is what's different and how do I fix it with other Debian distros? My broadband ISP is Alltel, if that helps. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Is DSL-N's browsing/ internet setings based on Testing or Unstable? I'd like to know because whichever Debian it's based on I could just go ahead and install.

There are many differences between DSL and DSL-N. The biggest, IMHO, is the kernel change. DSL is 2.4 based, and DSL-N is 2.6 based. The later DSL's are 2.4.26, DSL-N RC1 is 2.6.11, and RC2 is 2.6.12.

I don't know much about debian, or testing or unstable, but RC2 is based on Knoppix 4.0.2. Cite:

Hope that helps at least a little.
