				Hi There,

I have been using DSL for quite some time building a car computer as a navigation system for my 4WD. It has been coming along quite nicely with a frudal install running of a IDE/CF card. Also testing my compile of Gpsdrive as an installable application extension (thingy).

I recently bought a little touch screen which touted "linux" compatability.

I have since been having fun trying to get it to work with anything linux.

(it looks like redhat is the only one directly supported)

But, to my point.

I found this page that says the usb to serial bridge that is built into my screen is supported by kernel version 2.6.12 and above.

They also have source so I could add it to the 2.4 kernel but that all seemed too hard. It looked like the easiest way would be to move to DSL-N. Once I get the bridge to work it should operate as serial device.

SO my question in a nut shell.

Does DSL-N use kernel version 2.6.12 or above and if so is it cut down or are all the drivers included?

Any information greatly appricated.

Damn it looks like it is one release short.

What happens if I find a later release of the kernel and upgrade it.

My other choice is to try and compile the drivers as a module.

Has anyone done a readme / howto on this kind of thing with DSL.

Other ideas welcome. It would be a shame to have the touch screen and not be able to use it.

DSL-N RC2 will have a newer kernel. Might want to wait for that.

Also, I would not do alot of work for any distro in release candidate mode.

Release candidates are for testing and not production environment.

Many fixes and improvements comming in RC2. |

				Hi roberts,

Thanks for the info. I have gpsdrive running fairly smoothly in DSL so I'm not expecting a big deal to move it to DSL-N. Perhaps some dependancy issues. I'll submit as an application to the testing area once the time is right.

I won't worry about compiling the kernel or modules in that case.

My time will be better spent helping out with the development of Gpsdirve itself it is still Alpha(ish)

I am assuming that it is a full kernel that DSL-N uses, not a cut down one?
