hi
i use "hdinstall" script from DSL-N installed into my harddrive then put few stuffs in the HDD that i want.

After that i remaster my DSL-N live cd.
everything works great on LiveCD! Smile

however, when i found out that i got a spare but small size hdd! i cp everything into that hdd and tried to boot up as liveCD from HDD but i got kernel panic!

The boot lines go a few lines as normal before the error occur:

Uncompress linux.....Ok! Booting the kernel
.....
audit ...initialization....
RAMDISK incomplete write (-28 !=32768) 4194304
Kernel panic: not syncing . No init found: Please put some init = option into the kernel.

At first my grub was like this:
grub (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/isolinux/linux root =/dev/hda1 frugal

When see the error i add in boot line:
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/isolinux/linux root =/dev/hda1 init=/etc/init frugal

Still dont works!
give it 1 more try: kernel (hd0,0)/boot/isolinux/linux root =/dev/hda1 init=/sbin/init frugal

still dont works!
another try:
grub (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/isolinux/linux root =/dev/hda1 init=/sbin/init frugal
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/isolinux/minirt.gz

STILL DONT WORK!
google and see alot of similar error but no similar problem as mine!
now im outa ideas!

Could it be the way i remaster my CD that create the error? well i didnt change anything in the "isolinux.cfg" file! all are from the original LiveCD...
It also look like that RAMDISK initialization but i have no idea how to fix this problem!

someone please help!
thanx

this was fixed by using the command line below:

kernel (hd0,0)/boot/isolinux/linux fromhd=/dev/hda1 init=/etc/init frugal

Now another errror come up:
VFS: cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block (3,5)

It's not clear whether you are going for a frugal install or a hdd install. It looks more like frugal.

You cp'd? Did you cp everything? Are you sure?

Have you tried the frugal script? Scripts make things easy when they work. I'd recommend hosing your non-working install and restarting there.

Right-Click->Tools->Frugal Install->Either

Edit: I just realized this was an old post. Well, the question wasn't answered yet. Now it is.

I would not suggest to remaster anything that is an RC!
