I thought my Acer laptop couldn't boot from USB, as it is not one of the options in BIOS. I just found out today that I was wrong.

I set up DSL-N on a USB stick, ready for when I get my new computer this week. (I also recently found out that these USB sticks aren't bootable until you make them bootable).

Anyway, I accidentally left the USB stick in the computer when I turned it on, and it started booting DSL-N from the USB stick! I was quite impressed Cool

The funny thing is, it only booted off it when I didn't have a hard drive in. There might be another factor there that I missed, but either way it booted from USB even though it is not an option in the BIOS. Maybe it's because the USB stick acts like a drive once it is set up as bootable, and therefore BIOS is happy... who knows.

..but it works! I just had to share that piece of news. Smile

i have an i-friend laptop and a usb-ide converter running a laptop hdd

managed to get it to boot from the usb drive after messing in bios

the boo manager in the bios puts the usb drives with the hdd (in a kinda sub menu) but this is hidden, only indication is a tiny little plus (+) next to the hdd

dunno if yours is the same but its worth a shot

Nah, mine didn't have anything like that. It looks like a lost cause as far as the BIOS interface is concerned. At least it found a way to boot, which is good enough for me Very Happy
