Offsite link: Wiki Editing How-to
not everybody is born with this knowledge :) Wikipedia Editing How-to --Undertow 27 August 2005 16:21 (EDT)
- A good link! However I think that it would be more appropriate in How To Use This Wiki which is already linked to from the main page

Do we need a table of contents?
I've removed the table of contents on this page. The main page should be kept small with just the most important links people will need. --Friedgold 28 August 2005 10:19 (EDT)
- I've also removed the edit section labels. I think this makes the page less cluttered --Friedgold 29 August 2005 08:18 (EDT)
- They only appear in the Beta page. When the page is locked, as on the main page, they will not appear, but whatever. -J.P.
- I'm not talking about the edit button at the top of the page (that won't appear on a locked page). I'm talking about the edit labels to right of each section on the page. These appear even on a locked page (if you look at the main page, they are there, next to "Getting Started with DSL", "Booting DSL", etc). It is possible to stop these appearing using __NOEDITSECTION__ --Friedgold 30 August 2005 11:21 (EDT)
- Yeah, I realized that. :) -J.P.
The faq page discussion is disabled
I've tried to add some suggestions to the faq page, but I can only add some info here.
Although this does not belong on this page I want to suggest to add some Grub information to the faq. Escpecially that you can find the settings in /boot/grub/menu.ltd. For section 2.6 about static ip's the nodhcp option can be added to this file.
Multilingual wiki
I've translated the first two levels of the wiki into spanish and I've just added a link to the spanish main page.
I've tried several alternatives and finally I've chosen the current one. If you don't like it just move it somewhere else. However, it should be best somewhere visible, because a non english speaker will just see a huge amount of encripted nonsense and should be able to rapidly be aware of the existance of an understandable version before he/she gives up. :-)
- Thanks for translating the wiki, Fioddor. Top of the page is a good place for alternate languages. Keep up the good work. I moved your change to the Main Page. - Winter Knight
Unlinked pages
IMHO I think each and every page in the wiki should be linked from somewhere else.
In other words: once in the wiki, one should be able to access every page just by clicking, without the need to type anything.
If you agree with this policy, some action is needed on the following links, which seems to be orphaned (unlinked), as clicking in 'What links here' returns no results:
- All linked in the new Homepage (jun 2007)
- .Xdefaults
- DSL Tools (has a spanish translation in DSL Tools-es
- Setting the Proper Geometry on your USB Pendrive
- Enable Joypad Support
Suggestion to relocate the 'wireless cards page'
Yesterday (10th february) a sugestion was included in the introductory text of Verified_Wireless_Cards page.
I've removed it from there, because the right place for the suggestion is this Main Page Beta discussion page.
I don't agree with this suggestion, but never the less it is a valid contribution attempt that deserves respect. So I put it here:
24.21.251.207: "Since this is the MOST COMMON QUESTION, then I suggest the link be at the TOP OF THE HOMEPAGE, not the bottom, great page, thanks"
My personal oppinion concerning the suggestion is: It is indeed the most common question in the forums, but it doesn't mean it is the most needed information. People first solve their basic needs and then the wireless issue appears. The demand at the forum is the fact that supports the creation/existance of that page, not its location. The wiki's homepage should be structured according to subject logic and not to ammount of demand. But this is just my oppinion...
Forum
I have a question to ask wich I cannot find in either the Wiki or the forum; So I registered on the forum. Any attempt to add a new topic anywhere results in 'you do not have permission to post in this topic / forum'.
It's a simple question about remastering with already packaged applications being ommitted.
Any chance to find out what the 'secret' to actually allowing someone to post on the forums?
Apologies for this being here, but there didn't appear to be any method of contact to the administrators of said forums.

Typos in the Income Guide
On the page: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/income-guide/project-space.html , I noticed two typos: The page title is "wn your project space" -- it should be "own your project space"; and, on the page, "an OS platform, I mean com on!" should be "an OS platform, I mean come on!". Just posting here because I don't have easy access to an email account ATM.
Do the admins still watch this place?!

- Hello, Elassint. I am the wiki administrator. I usually come by once a week and remove spam. This time I hadn't come by in almost a month. I appreciate your help in removing the spam.

Suggestion: remove (compress?) USB imprinting instructions
The section "Imprinting Bootable Images to USB Devices (Windows)" is a bit confusing - It has multiple threads b/c of updates at various times. This isn't inherently bad, but I don't know that any of that information is more useful or unique compared to the "Installing to USB Flash Drive" section. I haven't been able to massage a usable USB key out of the meandering 'Imprinting" instructions (yet), but the 'installing' collection seems more clear/organized, and ... well, it works for me at least.
Unless I'm missing something completely obvious that justifies keeping the 'imprinting' instructions a standalone topic, I suggest either removing the 'imprinting' section or compressing it into a form that it will fit into the 'installing' topic. Perhaps move the 'imprinting' instructions to the 'installing' topic as a Windows Method III. I'm happy to do this, but I haven't actually gotten those instructions to work (... yet :).
