xmms plays loop for mp3

I think DSL finds the right sound driver and everything for my laptop.  It loads the via82cxxx_audio module.
Audio cd's work with xmms.  But the mp3's will play a second and loop back and play the same second again.  This happens for both xmms and mpg123.

Any advice?
Thanks in advance.

What kind of laptop are you trying this on?

Does it REALLY have a via sound chipset on it ?

My IBM Thinkpad used to try to load that module, even though
it REALLY had a crystal sound chipset.

I loaded the cs4232 instead, and problem solved.

Let us know what your working with, brand, cpu, ram, etc.

Perhaps then we'll be more helpful to you..

Sorry, I guess should've been more specific.
I'm running it on a hp pavilion zt1135.
I don't remember/know what chipset is in it, but knoppix uses the same module and it works well.
sndconfig says it's a Model: VT82C686 [Apollo Super AC97/Audio] and it's currently not supported.

Hope that helps
Thanks

I found this thru a google search...

I'm not aware of DSL's kernel having ACPI support..
Might have to "roll your own" kernel ...
There's alsa, but that requires kernel support too...
I'd swear it's only a dma conflict/wrong assignment..but I'm guessing..
Your cdrom analog output is probably a direct feed to your soundcard..
Again, it seems the AC97 is only "partially supported"

add the acpi patch to your kernel and compile all acpi drivers in. your
sound will work like a charm.

No, the alsa divers don't work:-) Give Jeremy's solution a try. It's the only
possibility to get sound working on Pavilions...

I didn't mean that he has to use the kernel modules... Only with the ACPI
Patch sound on most pavillions/omnibooks works properly. If You use Alsa, OSS, or Kernel drivers doesn't matter

Hey thanks a lot!
That explains everything.  Guess I have some work to do.

Thanks again!
