I have no sound because I havent configured the card yet.  But the thing is that I dont know what kind of soundcard I have.  Any solutions?

Try      lspci    in a shell and see if an audio or multimedia controller is mentioned near the end.

You can also take the cover off the machine and look at the card (unless the chips on the m/b).

Funny. Have a look in /user/bin for lspci.
Is it a hard drive install ?

Try  dmesg | less and page through the list checking closely after the usb & pci entries

For instance mine appears as es1371

PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 00:0f.0
