Now I see more than one alsa package, which one do I need for DSL 3.0 and do I still need gnu-utils?

Do I need use boot option alsa or can I start it after Desktop is loaded?

The ALSA extension, in the testing area, is all of the modules for sound cards that are currently supported.  I compiled the sources and made the package for easy installation.  You shouldn't need any other extensions to make it work.  See www.alsa-project.org for more information on what "string" of modprobe commands to activate different cards.
