I would love to see a (gentoo style) source-based gentoo. It make a whole lot of sense to me. Compiling = marginal gain, Running on ramdisk = more of a marginal gain, both = fun.

Any one out there doing it? I would optimize and compile a base system for my laptop then share the uber optimized 50mb iso with other evo N620c owners (same hardware no need to recompile right (maybe for USE)).

Anyway if there is anyone out there doing this please share the details.

lol, I like your attitude

Seeing as you are planning on building everything from source it might be interesting to try using the uclibc C library instead of the standard GNU one. It's much smaller meaning more programs can be packed in and less memory usage. I don't know how well it is supported under gentoo and there are probably lots of applications which would break but it would be an interesting project at least :)

If you get Gentoo Minimalist it's a mere 10mb bigger than DSL. So what id do it download the Minimal ISO and download more packages from Gentoo's website

There's a model for beginning the 50 mb iso.
