No network with Embedded on XP

I can't get the qemu session to talk to the network.  Using the latest 0.9.2 embedded on my corp XP professional box.  Note that this box is using BlackICE software firewall.

I started qemu using the supplied dsl-windows.bat file (which has the -append argument)

ifconfig reports that my IP is 10.0.2.15.  I also noted that the hosts file was the default DSL one with no changes.

My XP machine IP is 136.171.202.34

Should qemu be picking this up automatically??  Will the qemu session have a different IP than my machine?

(I've read most of the forum notes looking for ideas but the network part seems to be working for almost everyone...or they aren't really complaining about it.)

Help please....

FYI... I'm running an IBM T42 notebook (w/integrated 1GB ethernet)

I turned off the firewall thinking that maybe BlackIce thought the computer was trying to attack itself (or the virtual box was a seperate machine) but it didn't change anything when I started qemu back up.  Still no network access (that I can tell).

the GB ethernet might be what's causing the problem, but I doubt it.

Black Ice is very unforgiving to virtual machines. You might consider switching to ZoneAlarm Pro.

It's a much better firewall, easier to set up, etc.

Or even the free version of ZA. It rocks too.

No can do.  BlackIce is our corporate standard.  Our VPN servers even check to make sure it's running before they'll let you connect to them.

It didn't seem to be the problem anyway, as I disabled the service and then tried qemu again with the same result.

Anyone else want to take a stab at a possible solution to this one??

With a network connection, embedded is just an an isolated island in a pool of memory for me.

I don't know the answer, but if I were you, I would Google for qemu and blackice

or qemu and firewall

I have a similar problem on a corp net machine.    not sure which resource the ifconfig is ''actually'' using.
we are not using blackice, but are using a multitude of other tricky things.  Judging by the first few posts and me using it here,  it doesn't seem to be the firewall issue, its more of a virtual resource, or perhaps unsupported eth0 issue that i can tell.   Everything else runs fine,  ifconfig even states its broadcasting  (odd...)   to get even more complicated, im not sure i can reach proxy servers for internet access without an smb account set up on the embedded dsl.  if anyone has any ideas, im all ears.

I know what you mean.  I saw the ifconfig TX and RX packet counts too and was wondering just "what" was sending the packets back.

You don't need SMB to get through a proxy though.  I've run DSL through our MS Proxy firewall with no problems.  Just need to authenticate with "domain/username" and then the password.  I've run Firefox, dillo, glinks and even wget through the firewall.
