so... yeah ...
is there any easy way to install gaim using dpkg
because the only gaim files i can find are rpm
or source file (and i dont feel like going thro the
trouble for that)
or can i dl rpm package manager for DSL
from anywhere??

The easiest way I've found to install Gaim and many other programs is to use the Synaptic script that cbagger01 wrote. It may take a few minutes to get it going but once it's setup you can save the script into your filetool.lst file. It lets you run apt-get from the live cd. If you have enough ram you can install quite a bit.
