Can DSL automatically detection monitor resolutions at the boot stage, like the Knoppix does?

Using xsetup.sh is sometime a little bit confusing for common users

Anyone gives some clues, e.g. what scritpts used for dectection and its strategy?

Thanks

I don't believe there is any detection, it just trys to establish a framebuffer at 1024x768x16 and if that fails oh well. This can be bypassed by a boot: param or the lilo.conf 'vga=' line. xsetup.sh is only for choosing your xserver, you could remove it and have it default to one of the two xservers included, and you could delete the other one if you need to save space...

Thank you for your attention. In the Knoppix paper, < http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/knoppix-als2000-paper-html/, > Knopper said

Parameters that cannot be auto-detected (frequency ranges of old monitors, desired keyboard layout, language) are assumed with reasonable defaults. A single X-Window session is started if the graphics hardware has been identified correctly. Default is truecolor in a resolution of 1024x786 pixels if possible, or 800x600/640x480 at 8-bit if the graphics adapter cannot handle higher resolutions or color depths.

I want to know, how he can determin the current video card can/cant deal with default resolutions?

Keep in mind that one of the differences between DSL and KNOPPIX is that DSL uses the TinyX "KDrive" XWindows servers instead of the normal XFree86 servers.

So some of the knoppix autodetection stuff may not work correctly here. If I knew more about it, I would share my knowledge, but I don't.

I'm sure this feature was removed when the normal XFREE was removed.
