Networking :: Static IP
I was playing around with DSL booting through an XP machine and I was unsuccesful in getting it online. When I go to the NIC config should I type in everything as the same as in the XP machine?
IP: 192.168.1.101
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Broadcast: 192.168.1.255
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Name Server: Same as DNS?
Those are the XP's configurations, should they be the same within DSL? I don't know the system specs as the system is not mine. =[
Use the Net Card Config button in the control panel.
It will ask you for the info, then start your nic for you. This is especially helpful if your LAN doesn't allow DHCP.

In order to boot up a PC that is supposed to be configured with a static IP address, type in:
dsl nodhcp
at the boot prompt. Then follow Saidin's instructions to use netcardconfig
Hello,
Regarding fixed IPs, I've got a HDD install, I was wondering what files needed changing so that DHCP was disabled
okay, I have made the HDD install. I disabled DHCP by adding "nodhcp" to the lilo.conf and running lilo. I set up the NIC by clicking on the "net card config" button and all works fine.
Then I rebooted and ... oops ... no connection. I have to run "ifup eth0" manually after every reboot
I did a workaround by adding ifup to the knoppix-autoconfig, but I guess that's not the appropriate way to handle this problem?
Any hints?
