HD Install :: Lilo problem after dsl-hd-install

It looks to me like lilo is installed on hdb. So when hda boots up, it never sees lilo. If you want lilo to be a boot loader with a menu presented when you power up the computer, lilo must be installed to the MBR of hda.

Good luck, jimbo

Or, you can simply put the second hdd in front of the first in the boot order of your bios.

You will get a lilo menu, and still have th option to boot M$ from hda.

Hey J.P. thanks. I always wondered why anyone would install lilo to the MBR of a second hard drive. I didn't realize the second hard drive could be the boot drive.

Another way to boot your other drive without messing up the original MBR and bootloader for your original OS is to use a floppy-based bootmanager like the Smart Boot Manager.  It is easy to use and does no harm to your hard drive.  You still need to have a bootloader installed at the beginning of your OS partition, though.

It is also possible to run LILO from a floppy but I have never done it myself.

It's also possible to make a grub floppy, complete with a menu.
