HD Install :: Trying to keep the backup option uncheck

I tried the following because the backup on exit option still exists.
In the previous version of DSL I was able to edit this info.
Now, with the lastest version, I get garbage on the screen when trying to edit the EXIT file.

sudo nano /home/dsl/.dfmdesk/Exit
Line 36 reads: backupBtn:value(1)
Just change the value to 0

Since you have a hard drive installation and you like the prior version,  exit.lua,  then boot from the prior version CD and copy over the exit.lua program.
I thought that issue was resolved a couple releases back. If you're dealing with a hard drive install (per the thread), why bother tweaking the tools intended for CD/frugal use? Just set your jwm/flux menu so your own choices are available.

Edit: Slow on the trigger this morning. Or do like Robert suggested.

I'm more experienced with kubuntu/ubuntu.  I booted an older disk of dsl.  I assume the exit.lua file is hidden.  Is there another way to remove the backup on exit option or how do I modify the jwm menu so that my own choices are available?  I hope I'm not being a pest.  I'm prepping a pc with DSL 4.0 that I'm going to give my 10 year old cousin.  I refuse to put win95/98 on this pc that I'm giving him.
It's not hidden, just search for it:

find / -name exit.lua
