Site News :: DSL v3.4.2

I updated my frugal install from 3.4 to 3.4.2 by replacing the KNOPPIX file and the minirt24.gz file mentioned above. My machine boots up fine, so I'm guessing everything is as it should be.

I just wanted to check if I need to replace any preference files, or pass any special boot options, to make sure that my old settings don't overwrite the new settings from 3.4.2?

EDIT: the reason I wonder if I missed something, is that the OP says there's an update to Torsmo related to reading IP address. On my desktop, Torsmo still reports "Host: box" and no IP address.

Sorry if this is an obvious question - this is my first DSL upgrade.

It sounds like your backup overwrote the new /home/dsl/.torsmorc file from /etc/skel

You could either boot with the "norestore" option or boot as usual and then copy the files named in the change log/release notes from /etc/skel

It is just one file that needs to be updated:  .torsmo_ip

Just copy it, e.g.,

cp  /etc/skel/.torsmo_ip /home/dsl/.

Thanks - it all works now.

I should of course have read any release notes. I saw the original email, and checked http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/notes.html & http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/current/

Is there somewhere else I should have checked for specific release notes?

When I post that I have made a new release or release candidate, I usually also post the files and/or directories that need to be updated.
Sometimes, it is in the second post. Always, check the Site News and Release Candidate for the specific version/edition that you have.
