Window Mangers :: XFree86 and TV Out

I have terminal access via putty to a computer on the school network that hosts our slide show channel.  It is running linux and some piece of software that scrolls through all the slides alphabetically.  However, for years the output has been cropping the slides (640x480 jpeg) and putting black bars on the edges.  It has XFree86 and we were wondering what kind of configure file we might need.  As follows is the current config file

Also, if you know of any free linux programs designed for slideshows like this where we can set a date for each slide to display up to we would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Louis
