Now I need to package all of  these as an extension, the "classics"  :D

Why not an extension with earlier backgrounds and styles from DSL?

Where can I download the styles you use (the black one with color letters)?

There really wasn't much in the way of backgrounds in earlier DSL. Up until...1.x (?) there was just a little round button-like image of a penguin in a very plain theme.

For a long time we had a solid black background with, as mikshaw said, a baby penguin, an emblem image. Then we went through a awful purple period. Sorry, John, I never liked the purple themes. I think I gleaned the images that were widely popular. These images together with several jwm color schemes from Lucky13 is what I am packaging as an extension. It will also depend on the dsl-artwiz.tar.gz font extension that mikshaw made for us. I will post it soon.
Applying a GTK theme that complements the tan color scheme (ignore the green dfm labels -- those were for something else I'm working on):

They are ready and posted in the MyDSL testing area.
