Cool Things :: $200 laptop

Has anyone managed to get their hands on one of these?

I've been told that it is unobtainable.

Is it vaporware?

I wonder  if the bios even boots from the USB (it doesn't have a CDrom or floppy).

I've never understood why "poor countries" are supposed to need devices like this ultra-lightweight toy, when used, non-Vista compatible PC's far more useful could be easily obtained much cheaper.

Gladly this wasn't targeted to "poor" countries, just the rich but cheap -.-

When the kids got their hands on the OLPC in there, guess what was the first they used them for? Yes. Shows. So much need for computers...

Specs have changed and the prices are up.
Now taking pre-orders Allasus

Maybe that was a joke, but it sounded terrible.

Lowered specs and higher prices seems to be pretty much routine when developing new hardware concepts. A decade from now very few will remember the olpc or eee in their current state, when portable pcs will be as cheap and widespread as portable music players are today (not talking about necessarily ipod here, but just music players in general...cd and radio included).
