myDSL Extensions (deprecated) :: installing programs in dsl

I loaded DSL right onto the hard drive, no storage
problems here... Starts right up fine. I rebooted because I wasn't sure what, if any, scripts were needed or loaded. It had a red icon. I booted.
TO boot or not to boot. Made no difference...
the downloaded GIMP file is in directory it's supposed to be in, and I can't seem to make it fly.
