oh, i forgot....no mouse, no easy access to the menu.  my bad.
If the keyboard is working, you can still use the xsetup menu.

Just use the UP and DOWN arrow keys and the ENTER key to make your selections.

i tried use xsetup, didn't work, i have a wireless usb mouse with a wheel.
I did an install (boot from floppy) on a Compaq p200 with a cordless USB mouse and it worked fine when I booted but after I ran xsetup it stopped working.  This is my wifes machine running win 98 and I was only using DSL to get the USB burner to work so I didn't fool around with it too much.  It did work though at the start and was recognized by DSL at startup.

When you start up is the mouse recognized as a cordless USB mouse?

no but in xsetup.sh it will ask you if you have a usb mouse...so setting it that way should work
