Other Help Topics :: Find and install new software

First, I'm trying to find a full function personal organizer. I'm not sure where to look or how to determine if it will run on DSL. Do I need to look for x11, or xf86 or something different altogether? My only other Linux experience has been with Fedora Core where it's all clogged up with software and gnome and kde worked and programs were widely available.
