I don't want to hear the beep when I type not right.

1. Xfree

In Xfree you can turn the PC-speaker bell on and off with the xset commands option b - manual page

Example:

# xset b off

2. Console

To turn off the pc speaker on console mode use setterm with the argument blength - manual page

Example (turns it off):

# setterm -blength 0
