How do I upgrade my hdd installed version of dsl to the most current version? Do I have to burn a current version and reinstall over the top? If so, will I lose my settings, programs, and data? Thanks in advance.

yes and maybe. If you're not still user damnsmall,
you could edit your filetool.list, backup to other partition
or media, and restore after the new install.
This is what makes Frugal a good proposition.
If there is a way to upgrade a hd install, I don't know
it, and I'm all ears.
