Other Help Topics :: Burning a CD
I just got an Epia 5000 from the Mini-ITX store. They forgot the flash and OS, so I thought I'd try to do it myself with a USB stick. First I wanted to boot from CD, per instructions on this board. I've made several CDs and I always get the following message on boot:
ISOLINUX 2.04 (Debian, 2003-06-06) isolinux: Loading spec packet failed, trying to wing it...
isolinux: Extremely broken BIOS detected, last ditch attempt with drive = 9F
isolinux:Disk error 01, AX=42FA, drive 9F
Boot Failed:...
The CD must be at least partially ok or I wouldn't see any Linux messages. I verified the MD5 of the .iso file. I used both NERO and MagicISO to burn the CDs - same results. Tried 2 different CDROMs too - same results.
Any ideas?

I don't own an Epia but I would try downloading and burning the dsl-1.0rc1-syslinux.iso image file instead of the regular download.
Maybe the syslinux version of DSL will work even though the isolinux version does not.
Thanks, I'll try that. Another question: If I do an MD5 check of the burned CD, I get a different answer from the .iso file MD5. Should this be the case?
Thanks,
Ryan
OK, the syslinux .iso is working. Thanks for the tip. Now I'm trying to get the USB to boot. I've set it up as desribed in the various notes, but I just get DISK BOOT FAILURE. I set the BIOS for USB-ZIP, which someone on here said would work with this board. Oh well, I'll keep plugging at it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The error you are experiencing is due to a BIOS flaw, for more info see:
