Other Help Topics :: Linux newbie trouble with DSL video and Java ?
I am attempting to learn DSL off CD. I am booting a Dell Optiplex GX270. This computer came with a Dell 17 lcd. DSL does not like the video setup with this computer. So i am trying to figure out how to configure the video properly??? The only video it likes to use is 640x480. That is way to big. I boot using dsl=vga=normal, but I still can not seen to figure out the proper config. I have tried 800x600w 32 bit color, 24 bit, 16 bit, 1024x768 (off mem, so I might not be perfectly accurate with my numbers)with 32,24,16 bit color. No success (ie it bboots the colors are off and I don't see any icons) When I go into xvesa from the desktop it only offers 640x480, I don't remember the bit count. It sure would be nice to be able to configure this properly. When I boot using dsl vga=normal, it defaults to 1024x768 32 bit, but it does not properly display the desktop etc. Thanks for your time
I want to use firefox on the web with the java plugin. Can you help me configure firefox to use jave when I start it??
Thanks for your time and knowledge
You have 3 choices:
1) Use DSL at 640x480
2) Use DSL at 800x600 or 1024x878 and 8bit (256 color) mode. You will need to add this parameter to your /home/dsl/.xserverrc file:
-swaprgb
Add this parameter after the Xvesa word.
3) Get the Xfree86.dsl extension and install it. Follow the instructions in detail.
Firefox + Java should work automatically, or at least it used to work that way. Just download the Java extension from the myDSL repository.
