Other Help Topics :: how to mount the drives?

hi

always been a windoze user and now slowly and stedily making my move towards linux and i am finding DSL very supportive with windoze to start off. my problem now is , how to access the files in   c:\?

any pointers, tips appreciated

thanks

Typically, your existing windows partition is located in hda1 or hda2. DSL should automatically find all available data partitions for you at bootup time.

Do this:

Open up the emelfm file manager and navigate to this directory:

/mnt/

Look for some hard drive mount points.  Usually they are hdX for IDE hard drives and sdX for SCSI or USB hard drives.

In this example, there is a mountpoint subdirectory called "hda1".

Right-click on hda1 and choose "Mount" from the context menu.

If this is your "C" drive, then the files and directories that are located inside your "C" drive will appear inside the mount point.

yeah i did that but when i go inside the specified dir i can find lot of  files named ttyX but coudnt find any of the contents of my head drive and the keyboad doesnt work while i switch back and forth between windows app and QEMU window. anyways i will post that as a sep topic.

plz let me know wat i can do abt mounting the HDD

thanks

The directory name should be /mnt

It seems to me like you are looking in /dev from your description.

My instructions were for a native DSL bootup from livecd, hard drive or USB drive.

They don't apply to running DSL-embedded (inside QEMU).

If you want to get your C:\ files from DSL-embedded, you will need to try a different approach:
