I have dsl on hd. I tried to go to a certain website. It told met that i needed javascript. So i go over to sun.com en tried too download java desktop enviroment for linux. According to the help files from sun i can choose where i like to place the file in any directory. Whenever i try to click on the link of downloading it, i see a blank page, i do see above the counter of the cpu its downloading something. How can i see whether it is downloading a file from the internet? And where does the file goes to?
I apreciate any helpThe file would probably download to your home directory, for example /home/dsl/ if your username is dsl.
What web browser are you using?I am using Dillo as webbrowser, perhaps if i use firefox it will have different results. I wil try this out.

The Java Desktop Environment from Sun is a set of tools that will allow you to develop (write, compile and run) your own JAVA programs. This is NOT what you need if you simply need your browser to interpret javascript in a web page.
Of the browsers in DSL, Dillo does not have javascript support (I think), nor does Links. Firefox does, so I suggest trying to view the website with Firefox. (Note that as of early April 2005 there are security issues with releases of Mozilla Firefox prior to v1.0.3)
DeeJayFYI, Java and Javascript are related only in name. They are otherwise two completely different things. I think Javascript support is typically coded into an application, while Java requires the additional runtime environment.Next Page...
