Other Help Topics :: freeze on reboot

like the title says:

everytime i use the backup tool, it freezes when i try to reboot.

it just says "preparing to reboot" and pops the cd out, but after that, usually it says "press enter to continue", but that never comes up and i have to do a hard shut down. now the next time i boot it up, after i try restoring by using "dsl restore=hda1" it doesn't restore anything. all my saved stuff is lost.

now some key notes which may help figure out why this is happening:
- i'm running an ntfs hdd (i think)

- happens on backup or restore
- when i did backup and restored after, it didn't remember anything (styles, files created, etc), but it did happen to remember when i went to backup/restore.exe that i typed "hda1" in the text field last time =\

- when i use the shutdown cmd it shows "press enter to continue", but remains frozen.
- i tried backing up to a floppy, but that didn't work either.
- when the backup app froze a couple of times, i gave up and went to shutdown and it said that floppy is not a valid medium/destination or w/e. but i'm not sure why - i had it mounted and thats how i normally use the floppy as well.
- (i'll get back to you on the rest when i think up of it)

did you read the info about saving stuff or backup/restore in the window that pops up when you boot into DSL?

have you created a partition for use with backup/restore?

it won't work if all you have NTFS.

we need more info, and you need to read some more info.

It is not allowed to save files to an NTFS partition from DSL.

Choose a DOS or FAT32 partition to save your backup/restore file.

For example, most floppy disks and USB flash drives are formatted with DOS (FAT) partitions.

i tried with a floppy and it seems to backup fine, but again, when i reset - just hangs =\
