what is the default root passy or how do i change it?

im booting from live cd

There is no default root password. Use "sudo command" to run a single command as root, "sudo su" to switch to root for multiple commands, and "sudo su -c command" to run a single command using root's environment.

Create a root password with "sudo passwd" or "sudo su -c passwd" (can't remember which).

I've been searching the fora for about 45 minutes now, and can not find the answer. Please either how dumb i am or give me the answer, either way is fine. Thanks.

I have just created a CD from the iso image dsl-2.1.iso. I checked the DL and it has the correct MD5 hash.

The CD seems to boot OK from my laptop. I get all the way to the Fedora / Username: prompt.... at which point my dumb gene kicks in, because I can't figure out what else to try. I've tried dsl, DSL, root, and damnsmall as user names, and dsl, DSL, Dsl, password, Password, root, Root, ROOT and nothing (just ENTER) for the password -- I think I've tried every combo.

So, for this absolute newbie to DSL, what do I use for this (very first, never run DSL, can't use sudo because I ain't logged in as anybody) attempt to use DSL?

OK, I maybe think I know how dumb I am. My laptop has an old installation of Mandriva co-existing with WindowsXP. I think that the PC is not actually booting from the CD, and that I'm actually seeing the Mandriva login (have forgotten the user ID, but no matter) after the Mandriva boot.

After I get Mandriva off the laptop I will try again...
