I need to configure my kernel , I tried with make configure
without success
have to do that because I'm installing drivers for my winmodem

You could try getting a copy of Knoppix 34 5/17/2004 kernel sources and use them. DSL is based on this knoppix version.

Where is the kernel sources in KNOPPIX 3.4 Live CD?
