Other Help Topics :: Newbie Questions

Hi everyone!
I just downloaded DamnSmall Linux, and tried it out, and it looks great!  I haven't done an HD install yet, but it still seems very good.

But could somebody please tell me how do you shut down X?

When I try Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, it turns into a contorted display with fuzzy tiny characters that appear in three columns, with still traces of windows from X remaining on the screen.

Why does this happen?  And how could I prevent it?

I apologize for my newbie questions, but I hope you'll help me figure this out   :)

Thanks very much in advance!

When you first start Damn Small Linux, try this...  at the boot: prompt  , type

dsl vga=normal

add in whatever else you use, toram, dma, etc....  just type this in first..

Then , when you exit the Xserver, see if your screen isn't more cooperative..

What is this " dma " thing ?
if you dont use it, you probably dont need it.

But, when in doubt...
