Other Help Topics :: Backup tool maybe with GUI
Are there any Backup tool for DSL for automatically backup of Windows/Samba shares. Possibility with a gui interface for creating Normal, incremental, differential backup with scheduling?
Are there any myDSL package that handles backup schemes with scheduling?
thanks.
Does sbackup work with DSL? Anyone try it? Thanks.
I guess backup software isn't very popular...
I don't use anything special. For very important files, I keep copies on multiple machines. For everything else I back it up to dvd's once in a while.
You could write a script around smbclient to do the backups. I haven't run across any GUI that'll pull stuff off a windows box, except some file manager thing in KNOPPIX (name escapes me). Let us know if you find something. I used to use a smbclient script that I ran with cron. Now I'm using NASServer and a dos shell script on the windows box that works pretty well. The NAS software runs on a headless P166Mhz. Of course, the NAS box isn't good for anything else, so this isn't that atttractive unless you have an old POS laying around.
Maybe this one will work:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/personalbackup
I haven't used it, so I cannot vouch for it.
