How do you successfully edit logo.16?

I can convert it to ppm format and edit it in gimp, but when I save it the conversion back to logo.16 screws up with too many colors. I'm simply adding white text to the image as a test.

Does this help? I think the only thing it doesn't mention is that you need to " ppmtolss16 < logo.ppm > logo.16" to convert the logo back. I hope this helps.

I discovered that if I start out with a .png of 16 colors, I can do the logo.16 conversion w/o problems.
