how would one install a .rpm file?
oooh!! i whanna know 2.. !!! Mainly outta curiosity.. does the dsl book they sell on this site fill in and sndwer all these important questions? is it good for newbies.. heck i have been playing round w/ linux for years occasionally and still know nutthing.. least here someone might post an answer..
You can't install rpm files in dsl without installing the rpm application, and possibly additional support files.
Honestly, though, there's no reason to install rpm if you just want to add software. DSL is descended from Debian, which does not use RPM...it uses DEB. Just about anything you can get in RPM format can also be gotten in DEB format, and it's likely that there are deb packages that are not available as rpm.
You can install deb files in dsl after enabling apt, or downloading/installing dsl-dpkg.dsl from the myDSL repository....which reminds me....myDSL is an ever-expanding collection of packages that are specifically built for DSL.
i only asked cause i found my lexmark driva in .rpm . But your nfo is allways helpful never the less.
could ya tell me if i can get a list of ALL current dsl proggies and descripts.. rather than having to use the ?internet? mydsl reposite. cause push wait.. read push wait.. i prefer to just read one big txt file.. yal gottit? or is it a good ide4.. i get somma them ..
