PostPosted: Sat Oct 14, 2006 2:17 pm    Post subject: Cpufreq Governor Missing? Reply with quote

I've been playing around trying to get laptop-mode-tools to control cpufreqd using acpid events and got an error that the "performance" governor is missing.

If I look in /lib/modules/2.6.12/kernel/drivers/cpufreq in RC4, I can see cpufreq_ondemand, cpufreq_userspace and cpufreq_powersave (as well as freq_table and cpufreq_stats) but not cpufreq_performance.

Looking at an example for compiling a kernel for cpufreq, I found the following:

CONFIG_CPU_FREQ=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_STAT=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_STAT_DETAILS=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_PERFORMANCE=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_PERFORMANCE=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_POWERSAVE=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_USERSPACE=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_ONDEMAND=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_TABLE=y

Did cpufreq_performance get missed out in compiling RC4? Could it be included in the next release please?

I see no such module in Knoppix 4.0.2.
If you have compiled such modules, and would like me to include them, then PM me or email them to me.

No, I didn't compile any modules (I tried and failed in DSL) - I was trying to work with what is already in DSL-N.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems a bit odd that the ondemand, userspace and powersave governors are in DSL-N but not performance - unless cpufreq_performance is not compiled as a module.

The above being said, cpufreqd sometimes reports that it is using the performance governor even though I cannot "modprobe" it and laptop-mode-tools reports an error if performance is set as one of the governor options.

I'll continue trying to figure this out.

PostPosted: Wed Oct 25, 2006 3:37 pm    Post subject: cdrecord problem? Reply with quote

I just used cdrecord to burn the Knoppix 4.0.2 iso under DSL-N RC4 - of course now I've rebooted and lost the 700Mb download (nowhere with enough space to store it) I cannot read the files from the CD I burnt...

I got an error message with cdrecord stating that there were some "issues" with Linux 2.6.x and that an updated version should be used from the cdtools package.

Would it be possible to have an updated cdrecord in the next DSL-N release, preferably one that burns to DVD as well?

I'm not sure if this is a problem with RC4 or not but when I tried to apply the Knoppix kernel patch from the 4.0.2 CD to the 2.6.12 kernel sources, I got the following errors:

PostPosted: Sat Nov 11, 2006 2:41 pm    Post subject: Timezone Issue? Reply with quote

There appears to be some kind of issue with the time zone in RC4.

If I install libc6, I get the following message:

Setting up libc6 (2.3.2.ds1-22sarge4) ...
Current default timezone: 'Etc/GMT+4'.
Local time is now: Sat Nov 11 19:35:54 GMT+4 2006.
Universal Time is now: Sat Nov 11 23:35:54 UTC 2006.
Run 'tzconfig' if you wish to change it.

My time zone is GMT +4 but the local time (displayed correctly on the bar at the bottom of the desktop) is 18:35:54, not 19:35:54...

no one ever linked to the RC4 release on or on pages. It appears as though RC3 is still the current release.

page shows
DSL-N (DSL's bigger sister) is now at 0.1RC3.
and shows
DSL-N 0.1RC3 is now ready
Just trying to clear up some confusion.

When might we expect the next release of DSL-N?

RC4 loaded without a hitch.

I loaded some applications, fixed the sound card with Alsa and customised the desktop.

All of the above customisation disapeared once I rebooted.

To get around the lost menu items I created a mydsl.menu with the various enteries.

I am still having to reconfigure the other items every reboot.

What directories need to be preserved to get around these issues?

Also the Themes need bsetbg to load the background picture. bsetbg is not present on the installation. Where do I get it?

PostPosted: Wed Jan 17, 2007 1:53 am    Post subject: Ethernet configuration doesn't work Reply with quote

Hello,
I tried to install RC4, but the ethernet configuration hangs. It appears to be broadcasting for dhcp, but then stops and doesn't let me do anything else.
Is there a workaround for this? Or should I use RC3?
The weird thing is, it hangs while broadcasting dhcp for eth1, having backgrounded eth0. But I only have one network card. Unless of course it thinks the modem is one of them...
The PC is a vaio laptop. I can't remember which one right now, but I'll check.

Thanks in advance for any help.
