I've read everything in these forums that could apply (via search & manually scanning) but I've yet to see a resolution. I've got the same problem.

Just dl'ed DSL-N (RC4), created a LiveCD to practice with. but IPW2200 card doesn't work. Note that I dl'ed a LiveCD of Xubuntu and the IPW2200 card works fine. (both supposedly running the same kernel [2.6], although I don't know how to verify via cli Xubuntu)

In DSL-N, lspci gives:
0000:01:07 Network Controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG (rev 05)

lsmod gives:
ipw2200 127336 0
firmware_class 1139 1 ipw2200
ieee80211 38564 1 ipw2200
ieee80211_crypt 8684 2 ipw2200,ieee 8021

dmesg gives:
ipw2200: ipw-2.2-boot.fw laod failed: reason -2
ipw2200: unable to load firmware: 0xFFFFFFFE
ipw2200: failed to regisiter network device
ipw2200: probe of 0000:01:07.0 failed with error -5

Now I may have missed part of this, as I posted only what I wrote down on paper, I have to boot between doze & LiveCD to work on this.

Also I kmow what lspci & lsmod are (not error results of these though). But I have no idea what Dmesg is. It is included as I've seen others post it.

Here is same from Xubuntu....

lspci:
01:07.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (rev 05)

lsmod:
ipw2200 113476 0
ieee80211 33608 1 ipw2200
ieee80211_crypt 6016 1 ieee80211

dmesg:
[17179712.720000] ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL'
[17179712.772000] ieee80211: 802.11 data/management/control stack, git-1.1.13
[17179712.772000] ieee80211: Copyright (C) 2004-2005 Intel Corporation <jketreno@linux.intel.com>
[17179713.204000] ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.1.2kmprq
[17179713.204000] ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
[17179713.204000] Driver 'ipw2200' needs updating - please use bus_type methods
[17179713.204000] ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
[17179713.704000] ipw2200: Detected geography ZZM (11 802.11bg channels, 0 802.11a channels)

Since the ipw2200 card worked under Xubuntu I could C&P this last info Smile

got same message error on knoppix 4.0 cd

I had firmware files in libs/firmware and the wirless network works
however, firmware are not good, maybe wrong version, cause I get disconnected often and got in dmesg problem loading/ recognizing the firmware, still looking around to resolve the problem.
