I,ve never done the USB install so this may sound dumb.But after booting
the CD and played with it just a bet and I,m wonder how to save setting
ipconfig,e-mail things like that if they are set before installing to USB
well they be set or just install what on CD?Also as could add using apt-get
other apts .How can you save these using USB Scan Disk or can you?

If you use the install to usb hdd pendrive script then the mount point of the device is /cdrom and is writeable as user root. So backups and other downloaded mydsl extensions can be saved there.

If you cannot boot from usb hdd type install, then you can still set your backup device to a pendrive. By default the home dir is saved, so email, bookmarks, etc are already there.

$ sudo su

will get to root then type exit to return to normal user dsl.

Or

$ sudo your_command

Please do not run your system as root. You will have many problems.
