A new start at Linux - but like it a lot already.

Have run DSL from CD on an ageing AMD machine and loads up fine.

Wanted to try out DSL-N though for greater flexibility and it does seem to load fine, but only some of the applications on the desktop will launch. Most of them just don't do anything when you click the icon.

Anybody else seen this or know where the problem might lie?

In DSL-N there are only 3 icons in the desktop!!

Sounds like you have mixed DSL/DSL-N installation.

eg. DSL-N loads DSL:s restore file, and you get extra icons to desktop. (which ofcource don't work.)

To help test and give feedback on DSL-N boot dsl-n like this:

boot: dsl base norestore

This will insure that you have a pristine system on which to test.

Ahh... ok, never thought of that one!

Yes you are right, if I unplug the USB memory stick used to store the settings, DSL-N does load up with very few desktop icons.

And ok on the clean install script. Very usefull.

Thanks to both.

I'm still having problems getting mydsl apps to launch in RC1.

I downloaded eboard. Selecting the eboard icon has no effect.

It works fine in standard DSL.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
fos....

out of curiosity, if you try to run it from a terminal, does it give you any messages?
