I've bought an old laptop for $20... because I've already tried Linux Mepis... and appreciate the experience... I decide to find a disto that can run on a P2 @ 233Mhz with 32M RAM.

DSL is just perfect for this. Everything work well...Except the sound

I've tried few things, but I'm not sure what I should do

Regarding your sound problem, you might try the following, which works for the

Tecra 550CDT: and other Toshiba machines.

1. Enter the BIOS on bootup and make sure that the sound card settings match those in the following step.

2. Open a terminal window and at the prompt type:

sudo modprobe opl3sa2 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0

3. Try xmms. If xmms works you might want to place this command in the bootlocal.sh file in your home/dsl directory so that this command is run each time you boot up.

4. If this does not work, try and substutute ad1848 for opl3sa2.

Good Day Eh! Wink

Please give more info about the laptop, eg make and model. There's lots of different things that can make sound work, depending on the hardware.

somewhere in dsl extensions is AUMIX it allows you to turn up the volume since its abnormally low when you startup dsl. IT IS working but its just so very low.
